Thank you for "Lost in Ike"

The picture my Mom loved so much of her soldier was found and it was the only thing I could think of that she would want out of everything she owned. When I got that phone call the tears flowed. How does a picture on the wall of a house that is totally gone wind up stuck in the pillar of the house. Anyone who knew George (Lucky) Dunn, know he passed away 15 years ago and might say he wasn't going to leave. I believe it was the grace of God.

Please keep helping each other find what is most precious to them. It is rewarding to all involved.

Take Care,
Kris (missing my mom)

My house and my mother's house on Alberdie in Crystal Beach were totally washed away. A few weeks after Ike, my mother was lamenting that she had meant to take with her before she last left Crystal Beach an old ammunition box containing family records. I joked that anything that floats is probably over at Smith Point. That night we got a call from Doris Nelson at Smith Point! As soon as she said where she was calling from, I said "What did you find?" Her son, Bo, had been out four wheeling in the marsh and came across Mom's ammo box. I am not sure how they even tracked us down at my son's house in Beaumont but we are so grateful they made that effort. The documents preserved in the box are of no value to anyone but priceless to us! Thanks so much to our neighbors accross the bay.

I posted I had found a plaster cast of a handprint with the name "Linda" on the back. I knew it meant something to someone, but knowone ever responded. Well...my neighbor from across the slough (that lost everything) stopped by to talk and for some reason I mentioned the handprint. Her eyes got huge and she asked, "does it say Linda on the back?". When I told her yes, she exclaimed that it was hers when she was a child!!!

Just wanted to let everyone know that the plastic jewelry box that I found with a high school ring has been delivered to its owner. With the help of my friend Mary Beth, researching on the internet, and contacting friends, we were able to locate the owner and return the items to her.

Found a purse/wallet. Posted it on Lost in Ike. Owner didn't see it here. Thanks to Bolivar Resident Katherine Moorhouse and her friends from Church. Between them, someone knew who the owner was and put me in contact with them.

We found a wooden sign on the remains of our Caplen/Gilchrist property. After I posted info about the sign on this website, I received an email from a lady who had knowledge of appraisal district information. She did a search and found that the address on the sign was in West Beach (Galveston). We were able to contact the owners and return their sign to them. :) That sign had quite a trip from West Beach Galveston to Gilchrist on the Bolivar Peninsula!
